  • The conservative 501(c)(4) nonprofit American Future Fund, which says its primary purpose isn’t influencing elections, spent more than $29 million on political ads in state and federal elections last year.
  • Since its launch in 2007, the American Future Fund has reported spending more than $35 million on ads to the Federal Election Commission. Few other nonprofits have been as politically active.
  • Between 2009 and 2011, records indicate that another nonprofit, the Center to Protect Patient Rights, gave the American Future Fund more than $14 million — half of the $27 million it raised during the three-year period.
