EPA Congressional Correspondence

As a public service, the Center for Public Integrity is publishing a searchable database of congressional communication with the Environmental Protection Agency between late 2000 and early 2007. The Center constructed the database from a series of spreadsheets maintained by the agency. It contains dates and descriptions for more than 10,000 letters and correspondence between members of Congress, their staff and committees and EPA officials. Search by each lawmaker's last name or by keywords found in the description of the communication, including hundreds of topics ranging from regulations to contracting. Copies of the actual letters are available by filing requests with the EPA’s Freedom of Information office.

Instructions and Search Tips:

When searching the database, use the last name of House or Senate members because sometimes first names are not included in the data. To search topic or subject, use fewer words instead of long phrases for best results. For example, search for a single word, such as "potential," or an abbreviation, such as "PRP," when looking for the topic “potentially responsible parties.” The EPA database has not been modified and any misspellings, errors or omissions were in the government's data.
