A daily roundup of just-released investigative reports, drawn from oversight agencies, congressional committees, and government offices across Washington.

TRANSPORTATION: “High Speed Passenger Rail: Effectively Using Recovery Act Funds for High Speed Rail Projects” (Government Accountability Office). Reports findings “that while the potential benefits of high speed rail projects are many, these projects … are costly, take years to develop and build, and require substantial up-front public investment, as well as potentially long-term operating subsidies.” Also see hearing on “High-Speed Passenger Rail: How Fast Will It Get Here?” (Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security).
