Murali Krishnan, India

Krishnan began his career with The Statesman and, on his way to Outlook India, worked at the Indian Express, the Sunday Observer, The Telegraph, and Gemini, a London-based news service. While in London, he also freelanced for Orbit, World Today, and Canadian newspapers. In recent years, Krishnan has focused much of his reporting on the separatist conflicts in Kashmir and Sri Lanka. At Outlook India, Krishnan was part of the investigative team that exposed match fixing in Indian cricket, which became one of 2000’s biggest international sports story. Outlook India named four Indian players in the scandal and called for a formal investigation. Three months later, 750 Indian officials in 10 cities searched 93 homes and businesses of cricket players, their relatives, bookies and others involved in the cricket establishment. The investigation exposed close ties between players, team officials and bookies in several countries.
