Ahmed Rashid, Pakistan, is the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asia correspondent for the Far Eastern Economic Review and The Daily Telegraph of London.

He also writes for several Pakistani newspapers and magazines, in addition to regular broadcasts on TV and radio stations around the world, including the BBC World Service, ABC Australia, Radio France International, and German Radio. Rashid has written extensively on the international competition for oil and gas pipelines in Central Asia, China, and Iran, on the drug and smuggling trades, and on Islamic fundamentalism in that region. Rashid has written or co-authored several books, including The Resurgence of Central Asia: Islam or Nationalism, on the breakup of the Soviet Union from the perspective of Central Asia, Fundamentalism Reborn: Afghanistan and the Taliban, and Taliban: Militant Islam, Oil and Fundamentalism in Central Asia. In 2001, Rashid was awarded the Nisar Osmani Award for Courage in Journalism for his widely acclaimed study of the Taliban.
