WASHINGTON, D.C. December 10, 2007 — The Center for Public Integrity has won the National Press Foundation's 2007 Excellence in Online Journalism award, prestigious national recognition for the highest standards in the field of journalism.

The Center joins a distinguished list of past National Press Foundation online award winners, such as National Geographic Magazine Online, NYTimes.com, Washingtonpost.com, CNN, MSNBC, and last year’s winner, Bloomberg.com. “The Center represents the ‘future of journalism,’ as one of this year’s judges told us,” said Center Executive Director Bill Buzenberg. “I am extremely proud of the way the Center has combined top-level investigative journalism with an exceptional Website, providing a substantive resource for citizens and other media alike.”

The NPF judges included Sandy Johnson, Washington Bureau Chief of the Associated Press, Susan Feeney, a producer with National Public Radio, and Bob Meyers, president of the National Press Foundation. The judges said: “The Center for Public Integrity has a solid reputation for strong investigative journalism. Its Website is a treasure trove of information for other reporters to ‘borrow.’ The Center carries on an essential watchdog function of journalism that sadly is becoming scarcer.”

The Foundation presents seven annual awards for distinguished work in broadcast, print, and online journalism. The Excellence in Online Journalism award recognizes achievement in the rapidly changing field of Internet journalism and encourages others to follow the example of past winners.

The awards will be presented on February 28, 2008 at the Foundation’s 25th annual dinner in Washington, D.C. to honor excellence in American journalism. The Center wishes to acknowledge the vital support it receives from member donors and foundations, without which the Center’s projects and online journalism would not be possible.
