The Center’s investigation of nonprofit political organizations known as 527 groups, a major source of money and influence in state and federal elections in the 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006 campaigns.

Key Findings:

  • Political non-profits, or 527 organizations, have become a major source of money and influence in state and federal elections. The Center for Public Integrity’s project Silent Partners, investigated just how much of a role these groups played in the 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006 election cycles.
  • After compiling an extensive database, the Center listed the top 527s according to amounts raised, amounts contributed, and amounts received, providing in-depth accounts of their financial records.
