The FCC has set a July 30 deadline for public comments on the ongoing dispute between LightSquared and the GPS community over LightSquared's plans to launch a new wireless Internet service.
On June 30, a working group of experts found that LightSquared's wireless service, as originally envisioned, "will adversely affect the performance of a significant number" of GPS receivers. The company has offered a multi-pronged plan to address this issue, offering to operate at lower power, in a part of the spectrum that does not interfere with as many GPS receivers, and to share the cost of technical fixes for those still affected.
Comments should be filed no later than July 30, and replies to comments by August 15.
All comments should refer to the docket number: IB Docket No. 11-109. They can be filed electronically at http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/ecfs2/ or sent by mail to the FCC at 445 12th St. SW, Washington, DC 20554.
