Allowable ‘food defects’

  • Macaroni and noodle products: One insect fragment per gram
  • Ground thyme: Less than 925 insect fragments per 10 grams
  • Canned tomatoes: Nine or fewer fly eggs or four or fewer fly eggs and one maggot per 500 grams
  • Golden raisins: Less than 10 whole or equivalent insects and less than 35 drosophila eggs per 8 ounces
  • Peanut butter: Less than 30 insect fragments per 100 grams and less than one rodent hair per 100 grams
  • Curry powder: Less than 100 insect fragments per 25 grams and less than four rodent hairs per 25 grams
