Interceptors

Standard Missile-3 (SM-3)

The SM-3 is a ship-launched missile designed to intercept short and medium-range ballistic missiles.

Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD)

Launched from an Army truck, THAAD interceptors are the last line of defense against short and medium-range ballistic missiles.

Ground-Based Interceptor (GBI)

Launched from an underground silo, the GBI is meant to ram the warhead of ballistic missiles outside earth’s atmosphere.

Targets

Lance (MGM-52)

A surplus Army missile, Lance is used to test interceptors designed to shoot down short-range missiles.

Hera (MBRV)

The Hera theater defense missile is used to test THAAD and PAC-3 missile defenses.

Launch Vehicle-2 (LV-2)

The LV-2 ballistic target simulates long-range incoming enemy missiles.
