Beneficial use of coal ash

Coal ash recycling is often associated with concrete and wallboard — two “encapsulated” types of reuse accounting for a combined 25 million tons of waste. But that amounts to just 40 percent of the 62 million tons of coal ash that get recycled, industry reports estimate. Most so-called beneficial use relies on “unencapsulated” material, as shown by these top applications today:
