Sen. Doug Jones, D-Ala., had a heaping of help from a super PAC called Highway 31 to win his special election. Three political groups, in turn, funded most of Highway 31’s efforts. The Center for Public Integrity went down multiple rabbit holes to reach the real flesh-and-blood people behind the groups. Here are three attempts that resulted in dead ends: organizations that don’t publicly disclose their donors.
