TICK-BORNE ILLNESS: Lyme Disease
DATE DIAGNOSED: 6/30/2018
I contracted the disease while hiking in my in laws back yard in 2013. Before being diagnosed, I had seizures, heart palpitations, neck, back, pelvic, breast and shin pain, swollen tongue, throat spasms, burning tongue, numbness and tingling, severe nausea, rashes on upper legs, and other symptoms. All my symptoms come and go and aren’t as severe, but none have gone away. A health-care professional told me that the weather has allowed for more ticks to live in widespread areas. To my knowledge, no public-health interventions on vector-borne diseases exist in my area. It took me a year to get diagnosed after 16 doctors didn’t know or thought I had anxiety.
